Welcome Message from Mr. Fred Morton

Welcome to the 2009-10 school year.

I am honored and excited to be joining the Maggie Walker Dragons.  Our school has a unique and honored history with many accomplishments and successes to celebrate. The start of a new school year is a time that is filled with opportunity for all of us.  It is also a time where we can take on new challenges.

Last week, I was able to spend some time with the faculty as they prepared for the student arrival.  Their enthusiasm for learning and commitment to excellence is extraordinary.  I know that they will provide an education for our students that will far exceed your expectations.

As one reflects on the changing world around us, it is clear that our young people need to be provided with opportunities that will help them develop strong analytical skills, clear insights about the importance of an international perspective and enhance their scientific, mathematical, writing and speaking skills.  These critical areas are enhanced and strengthened through fine arts, extracurricular and community service experience at Maggie Walker.  Our students who come from twelve different school districts also bring a variety of perspectives.  This rich diversity of backgrounds and ideas provides a strong backdrop for our students and faculty to work and learn together.

I look forward to meeting each of you.  Have a great year!
