“Fall Festival practically runs itself,” or at least that’s what a former Fall Festival co-chair suggested five years ago when she was hoping that I would sign up to volunteer, along with some other parents. I can say from experience, while it is highly collaborative and immensely gratifying, it is definitely not an “auto pilot” event. To the contrary, this treasured school tradition, hosted by the PTSA, requires extensive planning and coordination from a dedicated cadre of parent volunteers, beginning in May and continuing full steam right through that magical first Friday in October.
This year’s Global Celebration, Fall Festival 2009, topped expectations in many aspects, including club participation, entertainment, attendance, and revenue. Most importantly, it afforded Green Dragons, young and old, a great opportunity to experience MLWGS community togetherness and pure fun. The PTSA thanks all students, families, faculty, and staff who joined in making last Friday’s event so lively and enjoyable. We especially acknowledge the unwavering dedication and concentrated effort by the Fall Festival 2009 co-chairs, Lynn Bivens, Anne Napps, Julie Weissend, and the rest of the hard-working committee. Thank you for the time and talent you shared to make our Thirteenth MLWGS Fall Festival the most fabulous ever!
MLWGS Fall Festival 2010 will not happen without you! Co-chairs from this year’s Fall Festival committee are “graduating” this spring, as are many of the committee members. Please contact Joan Yates, PTSA President (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are willing to contribute your “know-how” or can serve as a trainee for the planning, publicity, coordination, logistics, or scheduling aspects of Fall Festival 2010. The work is focused, time-limited, highly valued by the school, and offers a great opportunity to learn more about what makes Maggie Walker so remarkable.
