Can you picture the Maggie Walker Governor’s School without its remarkable Academic Clubs? How would our students survive without Bob Squad, the Chess Club, the Debate Team, the Forensics Club, Model Congress, Model UN, Pugwash, the Robotics Team, TSA or Lifesmarts?
That image, as unbelievable as it seems, could become reality if membership and support for Academic Boosters continues to dwindle. The volunteers and financial support provided by Academic Boosters are critical to the success of these and other academic clubs. A successful, active Academic Boosters group helps fund the ever-increasing costs of tournament and conference registration fees, travel expenses and materials, while also providing volunteers to judge debate tournaments, coach robotics, and assist at hosted Model UN meetings, among other things.
If your student is a member of any one of these teams, we absolutely NEED YOU, and so does your student!
How can you help?
Our current Academic Boosters chairs are senior parents. We urgently need trainee leaders and additional parents and faculty to serve on the committee and represent each of the academic clubs! Please come to our next meeting, Monday, December 14 at 7:00 pm in room 105, to find out how you can help.
We also need assistance with fundraising. Our most pressing need is for help identifying designated donations for Academic Boosters at this year’s March Madness Auction eve. We will be adding recent successes to the banners which grace the walls of the commons and cafeteria. Come out and help at our December 14 meeting.
