Scholarship Announcements

Congratulations to these students who have been selected as the Maggie Walker nominees for several scholarships this quarter!

Staige Davis & Kyle Herman: Both students were nominated for University of Virginia’s Jefferson Scholars (we were permitted to select two nominees this year).
Virginia Young: Virginia was selected as our Davidson College Belk Scholars nominee.
Meredith Bearden & Laura Goodfellow: Both students were nominated for Davidson College Bryan Scholars for athletes.
Greg Tito & Sharon Kim: Both students were nominated for Emory University Scholars.
Christine Hou: Christine was nominated for Emory Scholars and her essay was submitted for the Dominion Strong Men & Women Essay Contest.
Ishani Premaratne & Dominique Vines: Both of these juniors had their essays submitted for the Dominion Strong Men & Women Essay Contest.
Sharon Kim & Adam Koling: Both students were nominated for Washington University in St. Louis’s Danforth Scholars.
Kimberly Quick: Kimberly was selected for the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award where she will compete in a state-wide scholarship competition that recognizes patriotism and leadership. She was also nominated for Washington University in St. Louis’s Danforth Scholars.
Jocelyn Powelson: Jocelyn was nominated for the Harry F. Byrd Leadership Award where she will compete in a state-wide scholarship competition that recognizes leadership, scholarship, and service. She was also selected  as a Lexus Scholars Weekly winner by the Lexus scholarship committee for athletics and scholarship. Jocelyn will compete with other weekly winners for a scholarship in the spring.
David Wagner: Wendy’s selected David as the Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee for Maggie Walker. He will move forward in a state and possibly national competition for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award for athletics, scholarship, and leadership.
Samantha Halle: Samantha was selected as our nominee for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Sam will complete in a national scholarship competition that recognizes community service.
Brooke Nancekivell: Brooke was the runner-up for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

All seniors are encouraged to apply for the opportunities advertised through the Senior Newsletter (http://www.gsgis.k12.va.us/ourdepartments/newguidancesite/scholarshipaid.html) and their communities. Joy Davis routinely advertises opportunities available for sophomores and juniors.
