A Message from Friends of Virginia's Governor's Schools

This past week's headlines in the Richmond Times Dispatch made it clear, if we didn't already know, that Governor's Schools - indeed, all of education - face a challenging funding year. Friends of Virginia's Governor's Schools urges all MLWGS parents to contact their county school board members, their supervisors AND their legislators to thank them for their past support and to urge continued support. The focus of these contacts should be positive. Tell them about all the great things happening at MLWGS, and about what the school means to your children. To help you, here are some Talking Points used at last year's FOVGS Capitol Day. Use them as background info when you make your contacts.

In addition, anyone who is interested in becoming active with FOVGS (which represents all 18 academic-year Governor's schools, all of which are facing cuts) is invited to attend a meeting on Friday, January 22 at 10:00 in the Annex. We wiill discuss future actions and plan for this year's Capitol Day on February 8. For more information, contact Sara Hillgrove (RMSCHQ@aol.com), Martha Young (wereyoung@gmail.com) or Jane Scheibe (janescheibe@comcast.net) .
