MLWGS Textbook Adoption Review and Comment Opportunity January 25

During the budget planning for the 2010-11 school year, Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School budget priorities include the replacement of out of date textbooks. Each Department ordered examination copies of textbooks, developed content specific criteria to evaluate each book, invited curriculum specialists to participate with the department in the evaluation process, and selected the top three books for each course for further consideration. The books selected by each of the Department committees will be available for public comment in the MLWGS Library/Media Center. The textbook adoption process is being conducted in two parts this year to most effectively utilize school funds. The first public comment session will be January 25 - 29, 2010 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Parents and students are invited to examine books for one or more courses listed below and complete a general evaluation form. Department Chairpersons will summarize the data collected for consideration by the Department committees and the administration prior to the final selection. The books selected will be submitted for consideration to the Regional Board at their regularly scheduled March meeting. The textbooks for any additional courses will be available for public review March 15 - 19, 2010.
