The Maggie Walker Mech Tech Dragons, Team 422, participated in two regional competitions this month. The first week in March (March 5-7) saw the Dragons in Trenton, NJ competing with 61 high school teams - After a day and a half of qualifying rounds, the team emerged seeded in second place and qualified for the elimination rounds. They won their quarterfinal match-up, as well as their semi-final match-up. In the championship round, they split the first two matches (best two out of three), only to lose in a very close final match. Had they won that last match, they would have qualified for the National completion in Atlanta.
Their next competition was this past weekend at the Virginia Regional at VCU (March 18-20). The team definitely kept the great momentum going! The three day event at the Siegel Center included one day of practice rounds and two days of seeding matches and championship rounds. After competing in a field of 63 teams, the Dragons ended the qualification rounds in 8th place. This qualified them to continue to the elimination rounds and serve as an alliance captain. As in New Jersey, the team won their quarterfinal match-up and fought hard in the semi-finals. The semi-finals are typically a “best of three” challenge – but this weekend took five matches to decide! While the Dragons run ended at the semi-finals, the team was tremendously proud of their accomplishments at this tournament and throughout the season.
Please join us in congratulating the Mech Tech Dragons, Team 422 for their great work and performance this season and for their representation of MLWGS and FIRST! The team would like to thank the administration, team sponsors, mentors, and their families for their support!
