Math Team in Top Six For National Award

Five seniors from the Math Modeling class taught by Dr. John Barnes have qualified to be one of six teams competing for the top awards in this year's Moody's Mega Math Challenge. The final judging will take place in New York City on April 28.

Eric Tyler, Asish Makadia, Susan Ballentine, Will Farmer, and Cody Talmadge will present their paper in front of a panel of judges to compete for a $20,000 scholarship.

The problem presented in the challenge involved US Census figures, including making recommendations for undercount adjustment and for apportioning US House of Representatives. A total of 531 high school teams submitted papers.

Another team of MLWGS students received one of 31 honorable mentions and will split a $1,000 scholarship prize. These students are Norris Guncheon ‘10, Jason Kong ‘11, Cameron Napps ‘10, Niklas Philipsen ‘10, and Virginia Young ‘10.
