Writing Contest Winner

Elizabeth Ballou, sophomore in Mrs. Losen’s English class, recently won a writing contest in which students were asked to choose a piece of art from Eastern Europe as their inspiration to create a short story.  Elizabeth studied the starkness and fluid lines of “Portrait of Ida Rubenstein” by Valentin Serov, 1910, and in turn created beautifully crafted and poignant prose about the Holocaust, which she titled, “Tabula Rasa.”
