Five members of the MLWGS 2009-10 Debate Team competed in the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. The final results were just released, and four students won national awards.
Partners Kelsie Taylor ’10 (Chesterfield) and Logan Ferrell ’11 (Chesterfield) placed 12th in the nation in the Public Forum event. Mitch Caudill ’10 (Chesterfield) and Elsa Schultze ’10 (Chesterfield) placed 30th in the same event. Kimberly Quick '10 (Chesterfield) competed in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
“The skills that our students learn through debate competitions are integral to the mission of our school,” said Maggie Walker Director Fred Morton. “Maggie Walker hopes to prepare future leaders in a global society, and our debate team exemplifies that.”
“Qualifying for this national tournament is a remarkable accomplishment,” said Coach Dan Brown, a Social Studies teacher at Maggie Walker. “They all worked really hard to get this far.”
