Welcome New and Returning Green Dragons to an Exciting School Year!

The PTSA extends to our new and returning students, families, faculty, staff, and administrators a warm welcome (back) to Maggie Walker GSGIS! We hope your summer has been enjoyable and refreshing, and we look forward to working closely with you throughout 2010-2011.

We are excited to welcome our new Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Wendy Ellis, into our Green Dragon Family. She has been busy a good part of the summer preparing for her new role at Maggie Walker. Our PTSA board members and committee chairs have also been working hard to plan a host of activities and programs that we hope will support and enhance the outstanding work that all of you do.

Communication is a must in any family, especially one with over 700 “children.” Our dedicated Smoke and Scales PTSA volunteer editors, Jen Chambers and Wendy Shannon, have made a special commitment to ensure that you can be informed and up to date, each week, on the latest happenings and items of interest for our entire dragon family. Don’t forget to click on your “S&S” link each Tuesday, and please contribute your news items as well!

Everyone helps out in families, and ours is no exception! We thank our legion of enthusiastic helpers, who give generously of their time, talents, and resources to make possible our communications, major events, programs, and overall support for our school. We depend upon you to keep our PTSA a strong and vibrant organization, partnering with you and our Maggie Walker Governor’s School in the shared goals of enriching your child’s educational and personal development.

We encourage you to check regularly with the school calendar http://www.chronodex.com/index.cfm?orgid=gsgis and invite you to visit the PTSA section of the MLWGS website http://www.gsgis.k12.va.us/ourschool/ptsa.html to find out more about our many programs and to find contact information for our board officers and chairpersons.

Please look carefully through the information provided in your student’s back to school packet. There is much to digest, but it should prove useful in staying connected with your student’s school experiences! We deeply appreciate your full participation as you return all forms and checks to the locations specified on the flyers.

Best wishes for a successful and engaging school year!
