1) The Library is forming a committee of students, parents, and faculty this fall to provide input on ideas for new programs and services. Two slots are designated for parent members of Friends of the MW Library. The group will meet three times per year during lunch (to minimize transportation issues for students), communicate periodically via email, and collaborate through Google Docs. Time commitment for members is estimated at six hours per school year. One parent slot has been filled, but one remains. If you’re interested, contact Ms. DeGroat, particularly if you live in an urban or rural area.
2) The Library needs one or two parent volunteers available during the school day who are interested in covering and processing books and other new materials. If you’re interested, please contact Ms. DeGroat, especially if you have previous experience with book covering.
Look for articles in Smoke and Scales, posts visible in the center of the Commons home page, or emails from the library to stay informed about upcoming programs and events, as well as news about the ways that Friends of the Library makes a difference. The first global rotation for this school year focuses on China. You’ll find a book display focused on this region in the library. To enrich your student’s study of China, you may want to be alert for related cultural events and other learning opportunities around the greater Richmond area, especially during October.
