Please come on out to see another kind of sporting event: “Sports for the Mind.” This Saturday, November 6, beginning at 9:00 am, MLWGS's FIRST Robotics Team will host its 9th annual FIRST Lego League Regional Qualifying Tournament at MWGS. This event showcases our school and is often the first introduction students have to Maggie Walker. Come join in the fun!
All team members are asked to volunteer at the tournament to make this the event of the season. Please contact the directors, Sandy Furman or Carol Wise at firstname.lastname@example.org with your availability and to be assigned. The MECH TECH DRAGONS, FRC TEAM # 422, will be sponsoring their annual bake sale to benefit the team. We need baked goods! All team members and families are asked to please donate baked goods for this sale, and guarantee another successful sale! They will also be collecting peanut butter donated by competing teams, to benefit the Central Virginia Food Bank.
The vision of FIRST (For Inspiration and Research in Science and Technology) is “to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes.” FIRST Lego League, for ages 9-14, introduces young students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic based playing surface.
Through the 2010 Challenge “Body Forward”–Engineering Meets Medicine, FLL teams will explore the cutting-edge world of biomedical engineering to discover innovative ways to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions, and maximize the body's potential, with the intended purpose of leading happier and healthier lives. Research, teamwork, programming and design are all part of this great experience, where gracious professionalism prevails. By striving to find solutions as a TEAM, students experience a different form of real-world competition. Come join in the fun!
