Please mark your calendar for two important information sessions for all Maggie Walker parents and students! The first session will be on Wednesday, February 9 where the faculty department chairs will provide information on advanced and elective classes/curriculum options. This session will provide an opportunity to get answers to questions such as the difference between honors plus classes and regular (honors) classes: repercussions of getting a lower grade in a plus vs. higher grade in regular class; how many APs to take; consequences of taking an AP exam; dual enrollment classes, etc. The program will also provide a brief overview of the scheduling process at MLWGS.
The second session will be on Monday, February 28 where the school counseling department will present information open to all grade level parents and students about the college admissions process. In addition to our school counselors, Ms. Marilyn Hesser, an admissions staff member from University of Richmond and a former MLW parent, will talk about important college admission issues pertinent to parents and students. The evening program will include but not be limited to topics such as SAT/ACT/AP testing, visiting colleges, financial planning, summer opportunities, selecting colleges, and early decision versus regular decision. Please note that this evening program is in addition to our annual college kick-off program for junior students and parents which will be held that afternoon during school hours.
Both the sessions will be at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. If you have additional questions please email our guidance counselor, Mr. Karl Zweerink at KZweerink@gsgis.k12.va.us or our PTSA meeting programs coordinator Swati Jantrania at firstname.lastname@example.org.
