MLWGS Places First in Virginia Math League Contest

MLWGS mathematics students recently placed first in the 2011 Virginia Math League contest. Students participating in Virginia Math League compete for the highest scores, while schools compete for the highest team score. There are six high school contests each year with six challenging problems per contest. Students have 30 minutes to solve the problems. For 2010-11, 135 MLWGS students competed in one or more contest. The top five scores from each contest are submitted as the team score. This year the Maggie Walker team scored 164 out of a possible 180 points to win the league. Kevin Chen and Jason Kong were the highest individual scorers in the school and tied for third in the state. Congratulations to all the participants!
