Important Yearbook Announcements

School Photos
School pictures for everyone EXCEPT FOR SENIORS will be taken on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 26 and 27. Students will be called down to the Black Box in alphabetized groups. Freshmen and Sophomores A-M will be called on Monday. Sophomores N-Z and Juniors will be called on Tuesday. ALL PICTURE ORDERS MUST BE PAID FOR ON PICTURE DAY (buying the pictures is optional, of course), so bring a check to your sitting. Pick up order forms from Ms. Bowman in the Attendance Office.

Senior Portraits
Senior portraits will be taken by Lifetouch/Prestige Portraits at school on Wednesday, September 28, in the Black Box. Your tux or drape will be provided. Sign up outside Room 330, and bring your sitting fee.
Pay $25 for up to 8 poses; it’s free if you want only the Yearbook pose and 2-3 proofs. All orders must be prepaid at the shoot.

Seniors who wish to be photographed at another time should contact Lifetouch/Prestige (262-3700, Option #3, then Option #2). If you’d rather be photographed for your formal Yearbook portrait at another studio,
be sure that your portraits adhere to the following specifications:

a.  formal dress (the drape for women, a tux top for men)
b. "midnight blue" or other standard, dark blue background
         (shouldn't cost extra)
c.  photo should be head and shoulders,
with bottom of frame hitting mid-chest level. Any size from Lifetouch,
          including 2-15/16" x 2-3/16"  OR,  2-3/16" x 1-5/8"  OR,
                           1-15/16" x 1-7/16",   is OK!

Senior Photos from other studios are due no later than Monday, Nov. 14.
  • If we do not have your picture by the 14th, you risk exclusion from the Yearbook's senior section!
  • Please give Mr. White a copy of the photo if it’s not from Lifetouch/Prestige (the folks at Lifetouch will send their own clients’ photos directly to MLWGS).
  • Digital images must be a minimum of 300 dpi. The Yearbook staff prefers to work with digital images, which can be emailed to mwhite@gsgis.k12.va.us or delivered on a CD or flash drive to Mr. White.
Getting your Yearbook
It’s never too early to purchase a Yearbook! The price is currently $40, but it will increase to $45 on Oct. 1, and to $50 on Dec. 17. Get your order forms from the folder outside Room 121 or from Mr. White (Room 330). Now you can also buy your Yearbook online, at http://www.yearbookordercenter.com/.

Just find our school’s name or type in our job number (14632) to place a credit-card order at no extra charge! You can personalize the Yearbook by adding a foil stamp or metallic name plate on the cover with your name or a message. You can add an icon of your favorite sport or activity or the year of graduation. Information on pricing and options is on the order forms and on the website.

Placing Senior Ads
A large section of every Yearbook is devoted to Senior Ads. Here, seniors' families create their own tributes to their favorite graduates to tell them how proud they are of them, give them a special wish for the future, congratulate them on surviving MLWGS, encourage them in their future pursuits, and embarrass them beyond belief with compromising pictures from childhood.

Yearbook pages measure 8-1/2" by 11". Ads may be purchased to cover a full page ($220), 1/2-page ($140), or 1/4-page ($80). Please make checks payable to MLWGS.

To purchase a Senior Ad, send the picture(s) you want printed (please keep prints loose; when we scan photos that parents have already taped or glued to a sheet of paper, the result is often a low-quality image), along with any text you would like to include (your child’s name will be inserted in the ad, as a kind of headline, but you may include a message as well), to Mr. White’s attention, at MLWGS. Note: Digital files (individual images only, please; they must be 300 DPI minimum) are also acceptable; they may be emailed to mwhite@gsgis.k12.va.us or delivered to school (see below) on a CD or flash drive. We cannot accept digital layouts that you’ve done yourself, as they tend to yield low-quality and hard-to-manipulate results. Trust our staff; they’ll make a layout you’ll be proud of!

The Yearbook staffers will use your photos and text to design an attractive ad. Please be sure to indicate:
  • the size you prefer the ad to be,
  • your name,
  • the name of the senior being honored,
  • and your address and phone number or email.
Submissions may be mailed, delivered to Mr. White’s mailbox in the front office, or dropped off on his desk in workroom 330. When choosing pictures for the ad, please note that the 2012 Yearbook will once again be an all-color Yearbook. Lastly, the Yearbook editors and staff reserve the right to alter, edit, or reject photos or text due to spatial constraints or failure to comply with these guidelines.

We’ll make every effort to return your submission in early June. However, because we must send the photos to the Herff-Jones plant in Pennsylvania, we cannot guarantee that your photos will not get lost (though we haven’t lost any in recent memory), so you may want to send high-quality copies of your most precious images.

Because ad space is limited, submissions are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with the final deadline for submissions on Friday, January 6, 2012. Ads missing the deadline may be subject to a $15 late fee and may risk exclusion entirely. The Senior Ads section always fills up quickly, so don't delay!

Thank you!  The 2011-12 MLWGS Yearbook Staff
