Welcome New and Returning Green Dragons to the 2011-2012 School Year!

The PTSA extends an energized welcome (back) to our new and returning students, families, faculty, staff, and administrators. We hope your summer has been enjoyable, rejuvenating, and that everyone has their utilities restored!

We are excited to welcome our Interim Director, Don Skeen into our Green Dragon Family. He helped Appomattox Regional Governor’s School as an Interim Director and we are lucky to have him working in this capacity on our behalf as well.

Smoke and Scales is the backbone of our communication here at MLWGS and we are so grateful to have three new editors this year in Jay Alexander, Phaedra Hise and Joan Yates. These dedicated parent volunteers have made a special commitment to keep you informed and up to date, each week, as to the latest dragon happenings. Don’t forget to click on your Smoke and Scales link each Tuesday, and please contribute your news items as well!

We thank our enthusiastic volunteers across the board, who give generously of their time, talents, and resources to make possible our communications, major events, programs, and overall support for our school. We continue to depend upon you to keep our PTSA vibrant and strong.

We encourage you to check regularly with the school calendar http://www.chronodex.com/index.cfm?orgid=gsgis and invite you to visit the PTSA section of the MLWGS website http://www.gsgis.k12.va.us/ourschool/ptsa.html to find out more about our many programs and to ascertain contact information for our board officers and committee chairs.

Please look carefully through the information provided in your student’s back to school packet. (A special thanks to Amy Ziegler and her legion of volunteers for organizing that effort!) There is a lot to absorb, but the information is integral in facilitating your whole family’s connection to Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School. We look forward to your participation!

Best wishes for a successful and powerful (in all respects) school year!
