Less Can Still be More of a Good Thing: Post-Festival Thoughts, Thank-yous from the Fall Festival 2011 Chair

The MLWGS Fall Festival is a gathering place: a community fulcrum that continues to bind us together.  A  beloved school celebration, Fall Festival inspires music, fun, fellowship, food, and unfortunately for this year’s 2011 Fall Festival  -- rain!  Despite the rain disruption, logistical upheaval, and the disappointingly abrupt end to the Entertainment, however, … we still packed the lawn with over 64 booths, 22 Entertainment Acts and 6 new clubs, filling it with an immense gathering of our Green Dragon Family and Friends:  from faculty to administration to students, siblings, parents, grandparents and assorted relatives, neighbors and our loyal alumni.

The 2011 Fall Festival drew an estimated 750 to 1,000 spectators who spent almost $14,100.00 in support of student clubs & organizations. The Fall Festival continues to be the MLWGS signature “International” event.  Epicurean delights from around the world, and globally inspired foods create the culinary excursion.  It is a veritable sensory surplus of games, activities, and music … a masterpiece of mingling parents and peers from eleven different regional localities.
As the 2011 Fall Festival Chair, I had the privilege of working with a group of volunteer co-chairs who were tireless in their commitment to excellence and driven by a passion for the art of building community within the Maggie L., Walker Governor’s School.  This volunteer committee of 14 parents choreographed, collaborated, organized, fundraised, and brought multitasking to a veritable art form!  A HUGE THANK YOU to ALL of YOU!
