Martin Luther King Essay Contest Winner

This year, in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Maggie L. Walker Civic Society sponsored a writing contest to encourage students to think about the important social activist’s legacy of giving back to others.
The winner, Elizabeth Ratliff ('15), wrote a moving personal essay about her efforts to combat bullying, and she connected her courageous acts to those of Dr. King. “He was not afraid of the consequences of his words or actions,” she states, and “his legacy means that when I see injustice, I should, could, and will do something about it.” For her commendable work, Elizabeth received a certificate of recognition and a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble.
