The Richmond Twizzlers Intermediate Team placed sixth in their division at the Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships last Friday, in Hershey, PA. Competing against over 145 other teams, the Twizzlers earned an alternate slot for the National Championships in Boston at the end of February.

The team is composed of 14 middle- and high-schoolers from the Richmond area, including MLWGS junior, Emily Sacks ('13).

Skating to selections from “Cirque du Soleil,” the team earned a score of 45.51, only 7.32 points away from attending Nationals. Should one of the higher-placed teams be unable to attend that competition, the Twizzlers will be eligible to attend.

Richmond Synchro, the umbrella program of Richmond Twizzlers and Iceline of Richmond, is now in its 11th season with four team levels. Synchronized skating teams comprise eight to 20 skaters, performing elements including blocks, circles, wheels, lines, intersections, spins and step sequences.
