There are several summer opportunities for students interested in learning about various fields, or gaining experience in a particular area:
The VCU Dental Career Exploration Program is offered to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students from the city of Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico who are interested in exploring a career in dentistry. Through hands-on workshops students will develop skills such as reading comprehension through book discussions and public speaking through practice debates, as well as effective study skills. There is no cost for the program, and all participants are responsible for providing their own transportation and are expected to attend the full program. Interested students are encouraged to submit an application in order to be considered for the program. Carleton Liberal Arts Experience is a weeklong program for rising juniors that allows them to take classes from Carleton professors, live on campus, and learn what it takes to be a successful college-bound student. CLAE will take place July 7-13. Full scholarships are available. This program is for students of African-American descent or students who have an interest in African-American culture. Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service is a five-week program dedicated to teaching leadership skills through a number of classroom and hands-on settings, including a leadership curriculum, internships, and problem-solving exercises, while focusing on a specific theme specifically relevant to the greater Richmond community. This year's program takes place from June 25-July 27. Interested student can learn more by visiting www.stchristophers.com under the Summer Programs link. Since we can only submit five applications from our school, interested students must declare interest to Ms. Davis by Tues. Feb. 21.
