Model Congress Wows in Boston!

The Maggie Walker Model Congress Club was a dominant force at the Harvard Model Congress 2012 Conference held in Boston, February 23rd - 26th. Twenty-two MLWGS participants formulated and debated governmental policy in simulated congressional sessions.

The Harvard Model Congress competition had nearly 1500 participants from 69 schools, ranging from elite public schools to private preparatory schools across the US and overseas, including Horace Mann, The Dalton School, Latin School of Chicago, Georgetown Day, Sidwell Friends, Al-G-Hazaly High School, Lycee Francais de New York, and Amman Baccalaureate School of Jordan

The HMC 2012 Conference consisted of three legislatures with students serving on various Senate and House subcommittees. Students at HMC are assigned roles as particular congressmen and research the views of their legislators to represent him or her in committees and full sessions.

Many Maggie Walker delegates achieved passage of bills in committee and went on to do well in the full House and Senate. Harvard undergraduates served as committee chairs for the various Senate and House committees and evaluated the students on policy expertise, communication skills, quality of writing, ability to compromise and legislative effectiveness.

Congratulations to the entire MLWGS delegation for their outstanding efforts and performance! The MLWGS team was successful across the board, receiving more awards than any other school delegation
