Maggie L. Walker's FIRST Team 422, the Mech Tech Dragons, competed in the North Carolina Regional FIRST Robotics Rebound Rumble Competition in Raleigh on April 5-7.

They achieved the status of being a top-eight seeded team, out of 54 teams, and thus a captain for the elimination rounds, where they reached the quarterfinals.

The team and its robot were recognized with the Rockwell Innovation in Control Award for "an innovative control system or application of control components to provide unique machine functions."

The Mech Techs also received a "Lifesaver Award" from a fellow team, the 4H Wildcats, for displaying gracious professionalism, good sportsmanship, and "appreciation for your extreme dedication to our survival."

The team was lead by officers Wil Payne('12), Wil Thomason('12), Marschall Furman('12), Jack Palen('12), and Christine Gao('13), with support from Mr. Tharp and Mr. Houghton.

Congratulations on your hard work and achievements, Mech Tech Dragons!
