Students Win National Science Fair Honors

Both Samantha Marquez ’14 (Chesterfield) and Saumil Bandyopadhyay ’13 (Henrico) won awards at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Pittsburgh, PA.

For the second year, Samantha won a First Award in Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering. This year she won for her project titled “A New Frontier in Biomedical Engineering: Ex-situ Bioengineering of Hepato- and Neuro- Celloidosomes.”

Saumil won Second Award in Physics and Astronomy for his project titled “A Novel Universal Photon and Radioactive Beta Particle Detector: Multifunctionality Enabled by Wavefunction Engineering, Photomodulated Electron Tunneling, and Quantum Confinement of Charge Carrier Motion in Nanowires.”

The INTEL International Science And Engineering Fair was held in Pittsburgh, PA from May 13-18. More than 1500 high school students from 70 countries participated in this event.
