Save the date: Friday, Oct. 5, 4:00-8:00pm (rain date Oct. 12)
Come one, come all to the 16th annual MLWGS Fall Festival, held on the front steps and lawn of the school, facing Lombardy Street. This PTSA-sponsored event is designed both to showcase and support the school’s many student clubs and organizations, and brings an international flair to food, activities and entertainment for the whole family.
More than 50 student groups will feed, delight and astound attendees with a wide variety of offerings. During the festival, performers will entertain through song, dance and comic routines.
While there is no admittance charge for the festival and all entertainment is free, various fees are charged for food items, crafts and some games, so bring your wallet!
All are welcome to the festival: current students and their families (and younger siblings), former students and families, neighborhood residents, and friends of the school.
Be sure to check the MLWGS Facebook page for frequent updates about what’s planned and how you can be involved!
Many hands make light work, as the adage goes. The festival relies on many willing individuals who help with a multitude of jobs, including set-up, decorations, drink sales, crowd control at the stage, money counting, staffing the backpack storage area, and tear-down. As an added bonus, students are welcome to work alongside their parents, and may earn community service hours. Questions? Contact JoAnne Kaperick at firstname.lastname@example.org or (804) 323-7448.
The staff especially needs help beginning at 9:00am on Oct. 5, the day of the festival, to build the stage, move objects (generators, coolers, etc.) and set up tables, chairs and booths. Volunteers are also needed at 8:00pm for clean-up efforts.
MLWGS-sponsored groups (e.g., band, orchestra, drama, etc.) have reserved performance times on the Fall Festival stage. Additional performance times are available to groups with at least one current MLWGS student. To be considered, interested groups must fill out a Fall Festival Entertainment Sign-Up Form, posted on the MLWGS Facebook page. Completed forms should be placed in the “Completed Forms” slot in the Fall Festival kiosk, located in the Bluestone Lobby. Questions? Contact Cara Metz, email@example.com or (804) 615-5785.
Student organizations may sponsor tables featuring fun activities or delectable edibles. To reserve a table and activity (duplications are not allowed), faculty sponsors should complete and return the Fall Festival Participation Form, found on the MLWGS Facebook page, by Friday, Sept. 21. Forms may be placed in the “Completed Forms” slot in the kiosk or in the Fall Festival Box next to the faculty mailboxes. Questions? Contact Kristen Vithoulkas, firstname.lastname@example.org or (804) 346-5227, or Susan Akers, email@example.com.
Loaned items wanted!
To keep PTA costs down – and more money in the coffers of student organizations – Fall Festival is looking to borrow certain items that are essential to the event's success, including short-term loans of canopies/tents, 50’ or 100’ heavy-duty electrical cords, electrical power strips, large rolling coolers (capable of holding 30+ cans of soda), and a golf cart or ATV (to be used for moving large items). Or, consider donating an item to be used year after year. Questions? E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
