The PTSA extends a warm welcome to our new and returning students, families, faculty, staff, and administrators. We hope your summer has been enjoyable and rejuvenating, and that everyone is ready for an outstanding school year at Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School!
We are very excited to open the school year with our new Director, Mr. Jeff McGee. Mr.McGee comes to MLWGS with more than 20 years of professional experience as a high school teacher, coach, and administrator as well as experience via four middle school principalships in Virginia and in the U.S. Department of Defense Schools. These tenures included leadership in center-based settings for highly gifted learners, as well as experience in urban, suburban, rural, and international settings. Welcome to the Green Dragon Family, Mr. McGee!
Smoke and Scales is the backbone of communications at MLWGS, and we are so grateful to have Jay Alexander and Phaedra Hise returning as editors this year. These dedicated volunteers have made a special commitment to keep you informed and up to date, each week, as to all the latest Dragon happenings. Subscribe by going to the PTSA Weekly Newsletter Subscription Form found on the Smoke and Scales page on the MLWGS website. Don’t forget to click on your “S&S” link each Tuesday, and please contribute your news items as well! Please consult the submission guidelines link at the bottom of S&S.
We encourage you to regularly check the school calendar and invite you to visit the PTSA section of the MLWGS website to find out more about our many programs and to find contact information for our executive board and committee chairpersons.
We are also using Facebook to post information this year so please visit our FB page and “like” MLWGS to see postings.
We thank our many enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who are already giving generously of their time, talents, and resources to make possible our communications, major events, programs, and overall support for our school. We depend upon you to keep our PTSA a strong and vibrant organization, partnering with you and Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School in the shared goals of enriching your students’ educational and personal development.
Please look carefully through the information provided in your student’s back to school packet. There are many pages to read and digest, but the information is vital in facilitating your family’s connection to Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School. We would like to thank Amy Ziegler and her team for creating the packets. Each family will also receive a Student Directory with the BTSP. Thank you to Bruce Carney, Shelley Allen, and Patti Chappel for the August publication of the MLWGS Student Directory! The MLWGS PTSA looks forward to working closely with you and to your participation in the 2012-2013 school year. Best wishes for a successful year!
