Samantha Marquez (Chesterfield '14) has been selected as one of four national recipients of this year’s Neuroscience Research Prize. Marquez will receive a $1000 cash prize and attendance (for herself and a MLWGS teacher) to the 65th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Neurology in San Diego, CA, Mar. 16 - 23, 2013, where she will present the winning research project.
The award is sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the Child Neurology Society to reward high school students who explore the world of the brain and nervous system through laboratory research. The four winners were selected from more than three hundred entries from all over the United States.
Marquez's project was titled: "Neuro-Celloidosomes." Her research shows a new way of designing ex-situ neural-network tissues for potential brain repair and function regeneration.
Marquez is the founder and president of the new MLWGS Neuroscience & Psychology Club (NeuroPsi Club) that will start activities in early 2013.
