Sophomore Snags TED Slot

Noah Kim (Richmond '15) will bring his message about educational reform to Richmond and beyond when TEDxRVA premiers Mar. 22. Kim earned the coveted spot on Jan. 31, when he presented to over 600 people at a packed Hippodrome during open mic tryouts. Attendees elected Kim and spoken-word poet John S. Blake from among 31 hopefuls by texting in their votes during the event.

TEDxRVA is the inaugural local spinoff of the well-known national TED, a nonprofit
organization devoted to spreading world-changing ideas by asking leading thinkers and doers to give the talks of their lives. Kim had just 2 minutes and 20 seconds to speak about the impact that great teachers can have on students, and about his belief that students and teachers should drive educational reform. Kim said he is inspired by all of his teachers at MLWGS, and he used chemistry teacher Jennifer Todd as an example of a particularly motivational, transformative teacher.

The talk during the Mar. 22 event will be longer, and Kim is looking forward to spreading his message and representing MLWGS.
TEDxRVA tickets have sold out but the event may be streamed live. Check the website for more information: www.tedxrva.com
