The MLWGS team of Harrison Grinnan (Chesterfield '13), Will Kunkel (Henrico '14), Lisa Li (Henrico '13), and Jonas Rogers (Henrico '13) recently received Outstanding honors in the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP) contest.
Five-hundred eighteen teams from around the world competed and only eight teams were awarded the "Outstanding" honor. Additionally, MLWGS had four other teams garner honors that placed them in the top 13% of entrants.
In this COMAP-sponsored contest, teams of four have 36 hours to write papers detailing how they would model one of two given real-world problems. A day-and-a-half’s worth of grueling effort resulted in papers that ranged from 20 to 30 pages in length.
