Mech Tech Dragons Succeed at Regionals

The MLWGS FIRST Robotics Team 422, the Mech Tech Dragons, competed in the VA Regional FIRST Robotics Competition at the Siegel Center Mar. 15-16. They reached the qualifying rounds, making it to the quarterfinals. Their robot scored the second highest number of autonomous points in the tournament. They received a Judge's Award, the "Ambassador Award," for their outreach efforts on behalf of science, technology, engineering, and math education (STEM).

Matt Aldridge (Chesterfield '14), the Mech Tech's Outreach Officer, earned the prestigious Dean's List Finalist Award. The FIRST organization describes Dean's List honorees as "great examples of student leaders who have led their teams and communities to increased awareness for FIRST and its mission all while achieving personal technical expertise and accomplishment." Aldridge, the first of Team 422 to earn this honor, was one of only two students selected from 130 Dean's List Semi-Finalists at the VA Regional. He and the other finalist will be the VA Regional Dean's List representatives at the FIRST Robotics Championship in St. Louis in April.
