German Students Achieve National Honors

Eighteen MLWGS German students achieved awards for their high performance on this year’s National German Examination. Next year, MLWGS will host host this event, at which students learn about German, Austrian and Swiss culture.

For Level 2, Virginia Byrd (Henrico '14), Helena Barth (Henrico '14), Tallie Hausser (Chesterfield '15), Ben Rasich (Henrico '14), John Darr (Henrico '15)and Barrett Mills (Chesterfield '14) all received a Gold certificate for placing in the 90th percentile or above.

For Level 3, Jack Oliver (Richmond '14) and Brennan Burns (Chesterfield '16) also received a Gold certificate and Rachel Hickman (Richmond '14) got a Bronze certificate.

For Level 4, Justin Wilck (Chesterfield '15) received the Gold, David Clayton (Chesterfield '14) the Silver, and Sam Bell (Chesterfield '13) and Alan Zhang (Chesterfield '15) each received a Bronze certificate.

At the annual VOGS (Virginia Organization of German Students) spring convention, held at the University of Mary Washington on Mar. 22 and 23, two MLWGS students were elected to be officers for the coming school year. Justin Wilck will take over as President and Emma Arents (Chesterfield '15) will be the Historian. In addition to this honor, the team of Wilck, Catherine Liptak (Chesterfield '13), and Clay Thomas (King and Queen '13) won first place in the Battle of the Brains competition.
