Senior Named Athlete of the Year

Rachel Galton (Chesterfield '13) has been named the Group AAA Female Athlete of the Year in the VHSL Achievement Award. Ten high school seniors representing all parts of the state were selected to receive the 2013 The Allstate Foundation / VHSL Achievement Award, the highest honor given by the Virginia High School League, to students who have excelled in the classroom and in athletic and academic activities.

A luncheon to honor this year’s winners was held on Monday, May 13 at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville. Ken Willard, Virginia High School Hall of Famer and former San Francisco 49ers great, was the keynote speaker.

A committee of high school athletic directors and media members selected 10 state winners for $1,500 scholarships from a pool of nearly 150 students representing 58 high schools.

“The Allstate Foundation is proud to recognize these outstanding students for their stellar performance in the classroom along with their extracurricular activities,” said Shelva Clemons, Communications Manager for The Allstate Foundation. “Clearly these young leaders are the future and it is an honor to support them in their future endeavors for higher education.”
