Fall Festival Coming Soon!

Save the date: Friday, Oct 4, 4:00 - 8:-00pm, rain date Oct 11

Come one, come all to the 17th annual MLWGS Fall Festival, the one event in the year sponsored by the PTSA to directly showcase and support student organizations.

Held on the front steps and lawn of the school, facing Lombardy Street, the fall festival offers a wide variety of activities, entertainment and – most importantly! – food. New this year will be a Kid Zone, where the youngest among us (and even the young at heart) can relax and play.

While there is no admittance charge for the festival and all entertainment is free, various fees are charged for food items, crafts and some games. All are welcome to the festival: current students, their families, younger siblings, former students and families, neighborhood residents, and friends of the school.

Check the Fall Festival page on Facebook daily for updates about what’s planned and how to be involved.

Volunteers Wanted!
The festival relies on many individuals to help with a multitude of jobs, including set-up, decorations, PTSA drink sales, crowd control at the stage, money counting, staffing the backpack storage area, and tear-down. E-mail mwgffvolunteers@aol.com to find out where your talent can be used. As an added bonus, students are welcome to work alongside their parents, and students may earn community service hours. For questions or more information, contact JoAnne Kaperick at mwgffvolunteers@aol.com or (804) 323-7448.

The Festival Committee especially needs help beginning 9:00am Oct 4 (the day of the festival) to build the stage, move objects (generators, coolers, etc.) and set up tables, chairs and booths. Volunteers are also needed at 8:00pm for clean-up efforts.

Entertainers Wanted!
Certain MLWGS-sponsored groups (e.g., band, orchestra, drama, etc.) already have reserved performance times on the Fall Festival stage. Additional performance times are available to groups with at least one current MLWGS student. To be considered, interested groups must fill out a Fall Festival Entertainment Sign-up Form, available through the Fall Festival Facebook page. Completed forms should be placed in the “Completed Forms” slot in the Fall Festival kiosk, located in the Bluestone Lobby.

Clubs Wanted!
Student organizations may sponsor tables featuring fun activities or delectable edibles. To reserve a table and activity (duplications are not allowed), faculty sponsors should complete and return the Fall Festival Participation Form, found on the Fall Festival Facebook page, by Friday, Sept 20. Forms may be placed in the “Completed Forms” slot in the kiosk or in the Fall Festival Box next to the faculty mailboxes.

Loans Wanted!
To keep PTSA costs down – and more money in the coffers of student organizations – the Committee seeks to borrow certain items that are essential to the festival’s success. These include short-term loans of canopies/tents, 50’ or 100’ heavy-duty electrical cords, electrical power strips, large rolling coolers (capable of holding 30+ cans of soda), and a golf cart or ATV (to be used for moving large items). Also, consider donating one of these items to be used year after year. For questions or more information e-mail mwgffvolunteers@aol.com.
