Fall Festival Offers Something Old and Something New

Save the date: Friday, Oct. 4, 4:00-8:00 pm, rain date Oct. 11

Something old…
As in past years, the 2013 MLWGS Fall Festival is looking for (more than) a few good men – and women! – to ensure this year’s event is a success. Fall Festival is the primary source of funds for student clubs and organizations, enabling students to spend more time doing, not fundraising. All proceeds from the festival go directly into student clubs’ accounts.

Volunteer positions can be visible (managing the enthusiastic crowd at the stage), subtle (staffing the room where student backpacks and belongings are kept safe), or invisible (setting up during the day, when students are in class). Volunteers also sell drinks, serve as runners during the festival, count money, and help put everything away at the day’s end.

Students are welcome to work festival clean-up to earn those highly coveted community service hours, and no sign-up is required! Those wishing to help may simply report to the volunteer table at 8:00pm. (A reminder: working a shift in a club booth does not qualify for community service hours.).

Another way to volunteer is to donate something for the festival, which will be returned either that night or shortly thereafter. Items needed are:

  • Extension cords: 15 amp, 12 AWG, 50’ or 100’ long
  • Work lights: one or two on a single, freestanding base, 6’ or 8’ tall
  • Pop-up tents: 10’x10’
  • Wheeled coolers: 30-can capacity or larger
To learn more, or to donate an item, e-mail mwgffvolunteers@aol.com or call volunteer coordinator JoAnne Kaperick, (804) 323-7448.

Something new….
This year, the Fall Festival committee is implementing a ticketing system. Costing $1 each, tickets will be used in place of cash to make purchases at all booths. The change is being made to simplify money handling the night of the festival.

While tickets will be sold at the festival, everyone is encouraged to purchase tickets in advance using an online form. Tickets are non-refundable. At the end of the evening, any unused tickets can be donated to the booth of the giver’s choice, or to the MLWGS PTSA.

Pre-ordered tickets will be available for pick-up from a “will call” tent at the festival. Return the form to the Fall Festival Ticket Order Box in Room 100 before Wednesday, Oct. 2 to place orders.
