Tuvan Throat Singers to Fill the Forum

Tuvan throat-singing trio Alash
The Tuvan throat-singing trio Alash will visit MLWGS on Friday, Oct. 11 to perform at the Forum at lunch. This coincides with their appearance at the Richmond Folk Festival that weekend.

Tuva is in Central Asia, and its boundaries fall within the Russian Federation, though it was an independent country for a short time between the world wars. This is a tremendous opportunity to hear a vocal performance unlike any other on earth, as the throat-singers can sing two, three or even four notes simultaneously. They also perform exceptional vocal mimicry of animal and nature sounds and play beautiful stringed instruments.

The Forum isn’t large enough to accommodate the entire MLWGS community, but students are encouraged to spend their lunchtime on Oct. 11 in the Forum for this special event.
