MLWGS Hosts Lego Tournament

Robots and smiling faces return to compete at MLWGS for the 12th annual FIRST LEGO League tournament hosted by MLWGS Robotics Team 422 on Saturday, Nov. 9. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Robots will be in action from approximately 10:00am to 2:00pm. Twenty-five elementary and middle school teams from as far as Middlesex and Albemarle--as well as many local teams--will compete with robots they designed, built and programmed. Competitors will also present a project based on this year's theme, "Nature's Fury," which focuses on preparation for natural disasters.

Members of the MLWGS Robotics team have mentored several of the teams coming to the tournament. Team 422 members enjoy sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for robotics with younger children. In addition, MLWGS administration, student, parent, alumni, and community volunteers help to organize and execute the tournament. This event showcases both the school and its Robotics program and is often the first introduction these young students have to Maggie Walker.
