Mech Tech Dragons Start New Season

On Saturday, Jan. 4, the MLWGS FIRST Robotics Team 422 (the MechTech Dragons) held their season kickoff event. During kickoff, robotics teams across the world receive the same challenge and have only six weeks to design and build a fully functional robot. Around 45 current MLWGS team members and 25 MLWGS alumni attended the kickoff event, watching as FIRST founder Dean Kamen revealed this year's game, Aerial Assist! In the 2013 season, Team 422 attended two competitions in Richmond and Washington, D.C., later attended the world championship in St. Louis, and preformed better than any other Virginian team. The team received the Judge's Award at the VA Regional and the Gracious Professionalism Award at the D.C. regional for their exceptional community service and dedication to the values of the FIRST program. The MechTech Dragons are eagerly looking forward to a fun, successful season, and have plans to attend the Alamo Regional Competition in San Antonio, Texas and the Virginia Regional in Richmond in the coming months.
