This past Monday, seventy-five Maggie Walker Governor's School EduPAC students personally delivered over 1,400 constituent letters to 26 legislators as part of the yearly Capitol Day event. Students spoke with delegates and senators about their experiences at Maggie Walker and how passage of the budget amendments would help the school.
The initiative, spearheaded by Friends of Virginia's Governor's Schools, received an overwhelming response from the entire school community in support of the budget amendments, which correct the disparity in state funding for full-day Governor's Schools. MLWGS parent Anne Hayes sorted the responses as they flooded in last week, and also prepared the packets of letters for legislators.
Committee work on the Senate and House budget bills must be completed by midnight on Feb. 16. The Advocacy Committee will keep the MLWGS community updated on future developments.
