Future Leaders Forum for Young Women- Capital One is pleased to offer the 10th annual Future Leaders Forum for Young Women on Saturday, Mar. 22. This full-day event welcomes 300 young women in grades 9 through 12 to Capital One’s Richmond campus, where they will participate in activities designed to inspire, encourage and build their leadership skills. Students can see Ms. Davis to pick up an application. Applications are due to Capital One by Mar. 7.
The Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service is a multiple week program dedicated to teaching leadership skills through a number of classroom and hands-on settings, including a leadership curriculum, internships, and problem-solving exercises all the while focusing on a specific theme especially relevant to the greater Richmond community. The program is sponsored by St. Christopher's School and will take place from Jul. 7 - 26. Interested juniors can contact Ms. Davis for more information. Application deadline is Mar. 17.
James River Expeditions is a “floating classroom” that takes students down the 340-mile length of the James River. Rising 10th- and 11th-grade students who live within the river watershed are encouraged to apply before the Mar. 15 deadline. Students selected for the Expedition will have the opportunity to go on one of three eight-day trips that collectively traverse the entire James River. During the program, which begins Jun. 21, participants will learn about conservation, responsible stewardship and the river’s history while camping and traveling aboard canoes, bateaux rafts and work boats. VCU's School of Education, Division of Community Engagement, and Communities in Schools is hosting a special student mentoring workshop centered on the positive impact of educating girls and making a difference. Girl Rising is open to all students in grades 8-12 and is free of charge. Interested students can visit Ms. Davis for more information and to pick up a parent consent form.
