Mech Tech Dragons Wrap Successful Regionals

Last weekend, Mar. 20 - 22, Maggie Walker’s FIRST Robotics Team, the Mech Tech Dragons, took home the Virginia Regional Chairman’s Award and qualified to compete at the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. The Chairman’s Award is the organization’s most prestigious award, and is presented to the team which best exemplifies the goals and mission of FIRST Robotics. The team was rewarded because of the Dragons’ dedication to promoting the values and interests of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields to students, teachers, and legislators alike.

During the competition, the Mech Tech Dragons’ robot, named Tredegar, performed outstandingly, leading the team to the semifinals of the competition. The team also celebrated their 15th anniversary this year, along with the 15th anniversary of the Virginia Regional event.

In addition, the team also received the Regional’s Entrepreneurship Award, presented to the team who best embodies the entrepreneurial spirit to achieve their goals. The judges took an interest in the team because of their thorough team management strategies and successful business structure.
