Eight Gavels for Model Congress

Model Congress had a strong finish to the 2013-2014 season with Mr. David Hillgrove as its club sponsor.

The club attended three national-level Model Congresses, each of which had between 1000 - 1500 competing delegates.

23 students attended the Princeton Model Congress in November. Best Delegate Awards (Committee Gavels) were given to Andrew Leffler (Henrico '15), Matthew Perry (Richmond '15) and Pranay Vissa (Henrico '15). Honorable Mention Awards were given to Grace Headinger (Chesterfield '11), John Metz (Richmond '16), and Elena Zhou (Chesterfield '15).

Five students attended the Harvard Model Congress in February. Best Delegate Awards were given to Andrew Leffler and Pranay Vissa. Outstanding Delegate Awards were given to Matthew Perry and Elena Zhou.

Nine students attended the University of Pennsylvania Model Congress in March. Best Delegate Awards were given to Gowri Buddiga (Henrico '14) and Andrew Leffler. Honorable Mention Awards were given to Heather Thompson (Hanover '14), Pranay Vissa, and Elena Zhou.

Leffler was also awarded one of only eight Full Session Gavels for his success in passing three amendments in Full Session. Only five Double Gavels were awarded at this year's University of Pennsylvania Model Congress

This year's Maggie Walker Model Congress (WMC) directed by Gowri Buddiga, was one of the largest to date by sheer delegate count.
