JOIN THE FOUNDATION EVENTS COMMITTEE

Do you like to organize events such as receptions and fundraisers?  Does working with other Governor’s School parents to pull off fetes for grandparents or incoming freshman parents float your boat?  How about hosting the mentors who work with our students when they visit on Senior Showcase day?

If these sound like the sort of activities you enjoy, then the Governor’s School Foundation Event’s Committee could use your talents!  The Committee is looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to assist with events such as these.  No prior experience needed – just willing hands and your creativity.

If you would like to learn more about the Foundation Events Committee, please contact Laura Lewis, Interim Development Officer, at laura.lewis@governorsschoolfoundation.org or (804)354-1566.

HAVE YOU VISITED THE ONLINE VERSION OF THE MLWGS JABBERWOCK?

The student-produced newspaper’s new website, supported by a Foundation grant that covered the one-time set-up fees of host organization SNO (School Newspapers Online), is available at mlwgsjabberwock.com. The link in the previous story was incorrect, so be sure to visit this terrific site!

CLASS OF 2016!
GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENT ORDERS DUE WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4

Herff Jones stopped by last week to collect measurements for graduation caps and gowns and to distribute order information for announcements and other graduation paraphernalia.  Anyone interested in purchasing announcements must bring their check and order form in on Wednesday, November 4, when Herff Jones will return to meet with students during lunch in the downstairs commons area.  Online orders may also be placed through January without incurring a penalty for expedited printing.  All orders will be delivered in April.  Don’t forget … you have already purchased your cap and gown, so there is no need to pay for it again! If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Sheppard (ksheppard@gsgis.k12.va.us or 804-354-6800 ext. 3304).

GOOD NEWS!  NOW GLOBAL ADVENTURE IS ONLY A CLICK AWAY

A new “International Opportunities” link has been added to the school’s Academics page.  There you’ll find information about past and upcoming Maggie Walker trips as well as a list of local events with an international flair.  That’s just perfect for planning your weekend or even grander extracurricular expeditions.  Bon Voyage!
