AP EXAM REGISTRATION FOR 2018






Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School students will be registering for AP exams online using Total Registration.  Registration will take only a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.  You will be asked to create a login account so that you will have the ability to reprint your confirmation ticket and add or delete exams, if necessary.

When filling out the online form please be sure to select all of your exams and the appropriate teachers. If everything is correct, click "Confirm your Registration". This will record your registration and display the confirmation page.  When you reach the confirmation page, print two copies- one for your records and the other to return to school with your payment. Each AP exam costs $94.00 and must be paid before we order exams. A fee reduction is available for families that meet federal guidelines but must be approved in advance.  A letter from a parent documenting financial need is required.  Please see Dr. Loving in the School Counseling office by Friday, February 16 to inquire about a fee waiver.

Here are the important dates:
  • February 1 -Online registration begins
  • February 23 -Online registration ends
  • February 20-23 – AP Fees (cash or check) will be collected in the School Counseling Office (see payment schedule below) during lunch and afternoon blocks.  Students should use lunch or their study hall to come to pay their fees.  
  • Note:  After 3:30 p.m. on February 23a late fee of $10 will be charged.
  • March 9 – Last day to cancel an exam and receive a refund of $84 ($10 administrative fee)
  • April 24 – Last day to cancel an exam and receive a $69 refund ($25 administrative fee as exams will have been ordered).  Requests for refunds after this date will not be honored. 

Remember, you must present both your registration form and complete payment.  Checks should be made out to “MLW Governor’s School”.
  • February 20 -  Seniors - lunch, 6th and 8th block
  • February 21 -  Juniors - lunch, 5th and 7th block
  • February 22 -  Freshmen and Sophomores - lunch, 6th and 8th block
  • February 23 -  Any remaining students - lunch and all afternoon blocks

Attention Seniors!  If you know which college you will be attending in the fall, please carefully review the college's AP credit policy to determine if the college will accept AP credit for the program in which you are enrolling.

REMINDERS: 

You may need to arrange transportation for afternoon AP exams.  Exams in the afternoon will not begin prior to 12:00 p.m. and may not be over before 3:30 p.m.  Plan accordingly.

Exam pre-administration sessions (Bubblefest) will be held April 24  for seniors and April 25 for juniors, sophomores, and freshmen in the auditorium during lunch.  You must attend a pre-administration session in order to take AP exams. 





VISUAL ARTS BOOSTERS MEETING


                                                      



The next meeting of the Visual Arts Boosters will take place on
Tuesday, February 20 from 5-6 p.m. in the Art Room. This meeting will focus on planning for the upcoming Youth Art Month event. All parents are encouraged to attend!


March is Youth Art and Music Month.  This year, in addition to our regular student art exhibition, various school music groups will also be performing throughout the evening. Student short films will also be shown in the auditorium.   The date for this event is Wednesday, March 14 from 5-7 p.m.  The event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided. Please mark your calendar!

Tickets for the 16th annual Night of the Dragon dinner auction being held on March 10 at the Hilton Short Pump are on sale now. New this year–table reservations.  If you wish to sit together, reservations for complete tables of 10 will only be accepted until February 24. After February 24, all tickets will be  “seat yourself.”  If you wish to reserve a table, please submit the names of all 10 folks who will be at your table when you buy your ticket. Don’t have a group of 10? No worries. There’s always plenty of open seating and it’s a great chance to meet new members of the Dragon family!

CONGRATULATIONS!


                                                  



Senior, Eli Scaparo, has been selected to receive a 2018-19 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship. Eli was one of only a handful of VA art students to have their portfolio selected for this honor which includes a $4000 cash award.  Eli will be recognized at the VMFA during a celebratory event on Friday, March 16, 2018. Please join us in congratulating Eli on this distinguished honor.






                                     



The Foundation's Annual Fund Campaign supports several categories of enhancements at MLWGS.  Funding from our classroom instructional activities category has supported field trips to Henricus Historical Park and the Frontier Culture Museum (pictured), as well as the annual Art Department trip to DC and the upcoming Music Department trip to New Orleans.


                                                                       


So far this year, the Foundation's 2017-18 Annual Fund Campaign has raised $247,400, which is 75% of our $330,000 goal.  25% of current parents have donated a total of $51,917.  In our strongest fundraising years, parent participation has reached 70%.  Here is the parent participation by class:
  • Senior: 24%
  • Junior: 29%
  • Sophomore: 22%
  • Freshmen: 24%
