BUDGET WORK SESSION SET FOR THIS THURSDAY, JANUARY 15

The Regional School Board for the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School will meet on Thursday, January 15, at 9:00 am in Room 153 near the Bluestone entrance. Parents from all participating school districts are encouraged to attend The Board's regular meeting will be followed by a budget work session, which is a key component in the MLWGS budget process. Regional School Board members will review and discuss budget options for the 2015-16 school year. A second Budget Work Session will follow the February 19, 2015 Board meeting.

The Regional School Board is composed of school board members from each participating school district and serves as the governing body for MLWGS. Auction Seeks Corporate Sponsors

Corporate Sponsorship opportunities are still available for this year's Night of the Dragon Auction.

There are four levels of sponsorship - $500, $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 - and corporate sponsors will be recognized in the electronic newsletter Smoke and Scales, in the auction catalog, on the auction website, and on signage at the event.

PTSA program:  Teens and Mental Wellness: Anxiety, Depression, Managing Rejection 

Yes, it’s one of the early-morning ones, but it’s worth it! 

Hear VCU’s Dr. Michael Southam-Gerow, January 21, 8:00 a.m., Room 153. This expert on teens and mental wellness (and MLWGS parent!) will discuss anxiety, processing failure, sleep deprivation, exercise, and other important topics.

Mark your calendar! Achieving Academic Balance: Dual Enrollment, AP, Honors, and Plus with Mr. Karl Zweerink is slated for February 2, 2015, 5:30 p.m.

MLWGS Alumni Return for Robotics Reveal

Following a long tradition of MLWGS alumni support, several former Robotics team members joined current students and mentors for the build season kickoff on Saturday, January 3.  For the next 6 weeks, the team will spend nights and weekends at MLWGS designing and building their robot to compete at two regional competitions, striving to qualify for the first Robotics League national championships in St. Louis.  Last year the team won the coveted Chairman’s Award at a regional event, noting their achievements in team building, leadership skills, and community outreach. Go Mech Tech Dragons!




MLWGS School Board MEMBER’s Story now a Musical

The life story of King and Queen County MLWGS school board member, Ms. Cora Armstrong, has been made into a musical called Those Harvey Girls running January 29-March 7 at Swift Creek Mill Theater.
