FY20 BUDGET TOWN HALL

Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School will host a budget town hall on December 4
at 6 p.m. in the Forum to solicit community priorities as we develop the fiscal
year 2019-20 budget that will be presented to the Regional School Board and
the public in March. A short presentation at this town hall will be followed by
opportunities for stakeholders to comment and ask questions of the
administration.

MLWGS values your input and has provided another option for those unable to
attend the Budget Town Hall. The community may also submit their priorities or

MLWGS will develop a proposal that attempts to include constituent priorities.
Comments will be shared with the Regional School Board, Superintendent’s
Steering Committee, and the school Administration as they work to create a
budget that reflects the cost of operation, programming, and staffing.

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS MONTHLY MEETING

The Maggie L. Walker Athletic Boosters Club will hold a monthly Board Meeting
at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, in room 105. Board Officers and
Directors are expected to attend. All Athletic Boosters members and anyone
interested in becoming involved with Athletic Boosters are welcome to attend.
Anyone with questions may contact Athletic Boosters President Rich Schweiker

JAZZ BAND NEWS

Jazz band students at Maggie Walker had the pleasure of learning from
master musician and VCU jazz department director Tony Garcia during a
visiting professor lecture series. Giving two sessions over two weeks in
November, Mr. Garcia taught both jazz band classes how to create their
own unique improvisational material with their instruments. He also shared
his knowledge of jazz styles, rehearsal technique, and musical passion
with the ensembles.

Antonio J. García is a Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at
Virginia Commonwealth University, where he directs the Jazz Orchestra I,
instructs Applied Jazz Trombone, Small Jazz Ensemble, Music Industry, and
various jazz courses, founded a B.A. Music Business Emphasis (for which he
initially served as Coordinator), and directs the Greater Richmond High
School Jazz Band.
