Week of December 5, 2018

The Maggie L. Walker Athletic Boosters Club will hold a monthly Board Meeting
at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5 in room 105. Board Officers and
Directors are expected to attend.  All Athletic Boosters members and anyone
interested in becoming involved with Athletic Boosters are welcome to attend.
Anyone with questions may contact Athletic Boosters President Rich Schweiker

Please join us for our next MLWGS General PTSA meeting, to be held on Wednesday, December 12 at 5:30 p.m. in room 153. With the holidays, college applications, midterms, and more on our students' minds, it is a good time to discuss teen anxiety and stress management. School psychologist Lisa Ebeling will provide information about the many resources for support available through the counseling department at Maggie Walker. She will be joined by Stephanie Violante, a third year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology program at VCU. Ms. Violante is also a therapist in the Anxiety Clinic and a behavioral health clinician at the Children's Hospital of Richmond. She will give an overview of anxiety, including signs of anxiety in adolescents, treatment options, and ways in which you can support your student. Both of our speakers will take questions from parents following the presentation. We hope to see you next Wednesday!

The holidays are here... and it is time to grab your Dragon gear! Apparel, key tags, thumb drives, winter hats, coffee mugs, insulated tumblers, ornaments, sling bags, totes, magnets, stickers, and so much more. Perfect stocking stuffers to please any MLWGS student, parent, faculty member, or alum. The Dragon's Lair is open every Tuesday and Friday during lunch or visit the online store: mlwgsdragons.ourspiritgear.com. Look for special store hours the week before Winter Break.

Class of 2019,

Don’t forget to go online and order your graduation announcements! If you place your order after December 31, there will be an increase in cost. To order your announcements, follow these steps:

1. www.vagrad.com

2. Type in “Maggie Walker” at the top

3. Choose “Shop Graduation Products”

You will immediately see all of the graduation package options, but you can scroll to the bottom and see “Shop individual products including cap and gown” – friendly reminder, you do NOT need to buy a cap and gown. That cost was included in the senior class dues.

4. Select the item(s) you want.

If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to the MLWGS graduation coordinator, Ms. Kerry Sheppard at ksheppard@gsgis.k12.va.us.

As of November 29, 2018, the MLWGS Foundation has raised $96,298 toward our 2018-19 goal of $350,000. Recently, Mr. Benesh's math modeling seminar left for a research trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, and some of Mr. McGuire's students set off on the inaugural AP Comp Gov UK trip. Grants from the Foundation offset the costs of these trips (as well as several others) for every student attending. We've already committed to funding lots more student travel in the winter and spring, and we need your support to do it! Thank you to everyone who has given!
