FALL ART WALK

On November 3, the Art Department is hosting its annual Fall Art Walk, in conjunction with Richmond’s First Fridays (every first Friday of the month, Richmond, VA’s best art galleries open new shows and their doors to artists, fans, and friends). Additionally, this year Richmond’s InLight Festival is taking place on Broad Street as well (organized by 1708 Gallery, InLight Richmond is a free, public exhibition of light-based art and performances.)

One objective of the art curriculum is to have the students “be aware of and participate in the local arts community” and this is a great way to meet that objective. If you have never had the opportunity to participate in a First Fridays Art Walk (or even if you have) we would love to see you at our event! It is always a very fun evening.

When: November 3, 2017 6:00- 9:00 p.m.

Where: Meet in the adjunct classroom (room 153- outside the Bluestone Lobby) to enjoy snacks and refreshments.

Additional details can be found here: http://www.maggiewalkervab.org

SENIOR CAPS AND GOWNS

Herff Jones collected measurements for graduation caps and gowns on Thursday, October 27 during lunch.  If your student was absent, please have them see Ms. Sheppard in room 330.  Students also received ordering information for graduation announcements.  Orders will be collected from Herff Jones on Wednesday, November 9 and Thursday, November 10 in the first floor commons during lunch.  This will be the only time Herff Jones collects these orders in the building.  You may contact the vendor directly at a later date, but all orders need to be placed before January 1 in order to ensure delivery in April.  There is no guarantee that there will be extra announcements available to order/purchase second semester.  Please contact Ms. Sheppard if you have questions - ksheppard@gsgis.k12.va.us or 804-354-6800 ext. 3304.

NIGHT OF THE DRAGON 2017

Mark your calendars, the 2017 “Night of the Dragon” is February 25, 2017 at the Short Pump Hilton!  Come support Maggie Walker by joining the committee to secure donations and then enjoy a wonderful night at the Short Pump Hilton on February 25, 2017.  The auction committee is organizing to make the event a fun (and profitable) night out for Maggie Walker parents, friends, alumni and staff.

The committee has hundreds of leads and points of contact for wonderful donations; too many to pursue all alone. On November 9 at 5:30 p.m. we will meet at MLWGS in room 153 to provide leads and points of contact.

If making contacts or placing calls not your thing but you have a good idea or can make a donation – great! We are looking for sports packages, trips (vacation homes, hotels, restaurants, etc), baskets, spirits, etc. - anything people will desire enough to bid up the price.

Please email auctionmlwgs@gmail.com with a short description or call Peggy Feldmann at 804-517-8957 by November 9. We will get back to you as soon as possible to discuss arrangements.

The 2017 Auction Committee thanks you for your support.

HOLIDAY GIFT CARD ORDERS

It's time to place holiday gift card orders! Sponsored by the MLWGS PTSA, this easy-to-use fundraiser allows parents and other school supporters to purchase gift cards for their favorite retail stores, hotels, gas stations, and restaurants with MLWGS receiving a percentage of the sale. The MLWGS SCRIP card is worth its full face value, costs nothing extra to the purchaser, and makes a great holiday gift! There will be two opportunities this year to order gift cards for the holidays. If you place your order by November 7, your gift cards will be delivered on November 15. If you place your order by November 28, your cards will be delivered December 6/7. Orders are due to the SCRIP box in Valenta Williams' first floor office Room #100 by 2 p.m. each of the order dates. Order forms can be downloaded on the MLWGS website by selecting "Support" and then "PTSA and Booster Groups" or they can be picked up in Office #100. A full list of available gift cards for purchase can be found by logging on to www.unitedscrip.com. If you see something you want on the master list that isn't on our Maggie Walker order form, you can write it in and we can get it for you.

Questions? Please contact:  Lori Bekenstein at lori.bek@verizon.net.
