SCRIP ORDERS
The last United Scrip order before summer break will be due on Friday, May 17. Please consider supporting your PTSA through this simple fundraiser!
Graduations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, end of the year teacher gifts, and summer travel are all reasons to think ahead and use Scrip gift cards to benefit MLWGS PTSA at no extra cost to you! It’s simple- purchase gift cards for the retailers you shop through United Scrip, and a percentage goes back to our school. For a full list of participating retailers go to:
You will be amazed at how many of the retailers you shop could be benefitting MLWGS. Questions about the program? Please don’t hesitate to contact Laura Dysart, MLWGS Scrip coordinator, and parent at lauradysart@verizon.net.
Submit your order form and payment by May 17 to room 100 in the Scrip box. The order form lists our most popular retailers, but you can write in any of the participating retailers at the bottom of the form.
Are you afraid that you missed your chance to order your child's school portrait? Well, you didn't! To view and order pictures, please visit Wendell Powell's site:

Make a family memory and open your heart and home this summer! Host a student from Spain or France (ages 13-17) in your home for 3-4 weeks. Learn about their culture while he or she learns about living in an American family just being a part of what you regularly do. We have a variety of programs to suit your family’s work or non-working schedule. Families receive stipends to help out with expenses. We can help work out transportation or vacation concerns. This will be a rich experience for your family!

ASIAN AMERICAN CELEBRATION WINNERS
This weekend at the 22nd Annual Asian American Celebration at the Richmond Convention Center, Maggie L. Walker art students took top prizes in the art contest earning a combined $1,400 for the Maggie L. Walker Arts Department.
Tina Le (Henrico '21) won first place for her painting and Jacqueline Yu's (Henrico '20) artwork was selected for second place. Both these students received their prizes and certificates from 7th District US Congresswoman, Abigail Spanberger. Please join me in congratulating these talented students!
The Foundation Parent May Campaign is well underway! By now you have hopefully heard from parent representatives from your child's class about the ways that you can support the Governor's School Foundation Annual Fund!
We still need to raise more than $110,000 before June 30 in order to provide the same level of enhancements next year! These funds are essential in providing teacher professional development and continuing education, academic enhancements, upgraded technology, and assistance for students in financial need. The Foundation's efforts impact all of our students!
To date, the competition is neck and neck with the Freshmen parents slightly ahead. Help your child's class land on top! Current parent participation is as follows:
Senior parents (2019) 32%
Junior Parents (2020) 31%
Sophomore parents (2021) 31%
Freshman Parents (2022) 33%
We look forward to all that we can accomplish together for MLWGS!
